UP ITDC Hosts Webinar on Business Intelligence to Empower SUCs in Digital Transformation



In a strategic move to enhance the business and digital competencies of personnel from state universities and colleges (SUCs) nationwide, the UP ITDC, under the Office of the Vice President for Digital Transformation (OVPDx), successfully held a free webinar titled “Introduction to Business Intelligence: Driving Digital Transformation in SUCs.”

Held via Zoom on 5 November 2025, the three-hour session drew an impressive 547 participants from various SUCs across the country, including representatives from Marinduque State University, Bataan Peninsula State University, Isabela State University, and Cebu Normal University.

The webinar featured Victoria "Veck" Basinang, Chief Technology Officer and General Manager of Pointwest Digital Corporation, as the resource speaker. With over 30 years of experience in technology leadership and business development, Basinang is a recognized expert in digital innovation, particularly in Cloud, Data, and Artificial Intelligence.

Business Intelligence (BI)—as broadly defined—encompasses the processes, techniques, and technological infrastructure used to collect, manage, and analyze organizational data. These insights are crucial for informed decision-making and optimizing business operations.



During her presentation, Basinang provided a comprehensive overview of BI, covering:

  • The history, evolution, and current technology landscape of business intelligence
  • The BI workflow, from data sourcing and collection to insight-driven action planning
  • Key distinctions between business intelligence, data analytics, and business analytics
  • The big data ecosystem within SUCs, including the volume and variety of data generated
  • Emerging trends in BI and analytics, including AI-driven strategies and operational frameworks

Her insights offered participants a clearer understanding of how BI can be harnessed to improve institutional efficiency and support digital transformation initiatives.

This initiative reflects ITDC’s unwavering commitment to advancing digital literacy and strengthening institutional workflows across the higher education sector. By equipping SUC personnel with foundational knowledge in BI, ITDC continues to lead the charge in its public service mandate in shaping a digitally empowered academic community, aligning with UP’s digital transformation agenda and the UP President’s strategic program.
