UP ITDC welcomes Batangas Eastern Colleges for educational tour and tech talk



On March 28, 2025, the University of the Philippines Information Technology Development Center (UP ITDC) hosted an engaging educational tour and technology talk for a delegation from Batangas Eastern Colleges consisting of students and faculty members. The event took place at the Vidal Tan Hall, UP Diliman.

The group included Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS) students and faculty members. Gabriel Villorente, UP ITDC training team lead, opened the program with a presentation on the center's role and mandate within the university. He highlighted UP ITDC's mission to provide instruction and technical support to students, faculty, and staff, ensuring they maximize the benefits of modern technologies. Villorente also emphasized the center's commitment to offering IT training, consulting, content and software development, and various IT services to external stakeholders.

Meanwhile, Ada Angeli Cariaga from UP ITDC's Software Engineering team delved into "Current IT Careers and Opportunities." She provided insights into the significance of IT infrastructure, software development, and emerging technologies. Her discussion covered essential topics such as cybersecurity, IT’s role in business and society, and the global demand for IT professionals. Cariaga also emphasized the many advantages of pursuing a career in IT, including competitive salaries, job security, diverse opportunities, flexibility, and the ever-evolving nature of the industry.

The event reflected UP ITDC's advocacy for fostering the growth of information and communications technology (ICT) and inspiring the next generation of IT practitioners. More importantly, the Center strongly supports the UP President’s public service program especially in the fields of ICT.
