The UP ITDC successfully hosted a three-hour online workshop titled Introduction to ICT Governance via Zoom on July 2, 2025.
The event drew an impressive attendance of 446 participants representing state universities and colleges (SUCs), higher education institutions such as the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, West Visayas State University, and the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy, as well as key government agencies including PhilHealth, the National Police Commission, the National Food Authority, and the Department of Trade and Industry.
Serving as the resource speaker was Dr. Alvin Marcelo, a health informatics expert and faculty member of the UP College of Medicine. Dr. Marcelo leads the Standards and Interoperability Lab at the UP Manila National Institutes of Health – National Telehealth Center. He guided attendees through foundational concepts in ICT governance, covering principles, structural frameworks, and internationally recognized standards. His credentials include certifications in CGEIT, COBIT, TOGAF, and ArchiMate, and he serves as the representative of the Asia eHealth Information Network at the Department of Health’s National Digital Health Technical Working Group.
Dr. Marcelo shared his experiences in ICT governance, and discussed the role of IT governance in digital transformation. With his background in eHealth, he enlightened the attendees on case studies in that field and how it may be applied to other organizations. He reiterated the importance of evaluating an organization’s pain points as these will be the opportunities for change or transformation.
This online discussion marks another significant milestone in ITDC's continued efforts to advance the University’s digital transformation agenda. It aligns with the vision of UP President Angelo A. Jimenez to modernize institutional workflows, foster inclusive engagement, and establish UP as a leader in the digital era. (Levi Lusterio, ITDC, 7 July 2025)
