On 9 July 2025, the Office of the Vice President for Digital Transformation (OVPDx) and the ITDC hosted a webinar workshop on virtualization and network simulation using Proxmox VE and GNS3. Held via Zoom, the session brought together 56 IT personnel from UP constituent universities and specialized units including the Intelligent Systems Center, UP Data Commons, the UPD Computational Science Research Center, and the UP Visayas–Miagao Division of Physical Sciences and Mathematics’ Computer Science Cluster.
The program featured resource experts from the UP Diliman Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute (EEEI): Senior ICT Manager John Mario Evangelista and Senior ICT Associate Colline Estrada. Evangelista leads the ICT infrastructure at EEEI, ensuring robust and efficient system operations in support of academic and research initiatives. His expertise spans network security, high-performance computing, and system administration. Estrada, meanwhile, designs and manages a diverse array of ICT services and infrastructure, including identity management, access control, and network security systems built on commodity servers.
Designed to blend theoretical insight with practical experience, the workshop aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE) and the Graphical Network Simulator 3 (GNS3). Evangelista and Estrada opened the floor for discussion at the beginning of the session, with some of the participants sharing their experiences on using the technologies in their respective offices or CUs. They then proceeded with the demonstration of the installation and configuration. Throughout the session, participants posed questions on the more detailed technical complexities of the tools, which Evangelista and Estrada expounded upon.
This initiative reflects OVPDx and ITDC’s ongoing commitment to advancing digital transformation across the University of the Philippines, aligning with the strategic vision of UP President Angelo A. Jimenez. (Levi Lusterio, ITDC, 10 July 2025)
